The Twilight series Midnight Sun had been in development at Lionsgate for over a year and a half, but no premise or writer had been announced until recently.
Midnight Sun, a reworking of the first Twilight novel, is told solely from the perspective of Edward Cullen, the charming and, yes, incredibly sparkly vampire who captures the attention of a young Bella Swan.
The Twilight books created a multibillion-dollar film franchise, beginning with the title film starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson and continuing with the four subsequent films in the saga — New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn Part 1, and Breaking Dawn Part 2.
Meyer will executive produce Midnight Sun with Fickle Fish Films partner Meghan Hibbett, Temple Hill Entertainment’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, and Picturestart’s Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey. Sinead Daly (Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Raised by Wolves, and The Get Down) will executive produce and write the series.
“Midnight Sun” was first released in 2020. It is a reworking of the first “Twilight” novel from the perspective of Edward Cullen rather than Bella Swan.
