The proximity of Spider-Man 4 by Destin Daniel Cretton is one of the reasons why Beyond the Spider-Verse is probably going to be postponed until at least 2027. According to the source, a creative change at Sony Pictures led to the cancellation of most of the current work on Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, animators are reportedly “relieved” to have more time to work on the sequel.
This follows the controversy surrounding 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which was partly responsible for Beyond’s original March 2024 release date being postponed due to claims of subpar working conditions.
Reports surfaced in 2023, shortly after the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, suggesting that Beyond the Spider-Verse would be delayed due to production issues and claims by animators and artists that almost no work had been completed.
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” was a big commercial and critical hit back in the summer of 2023. The sequel ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ was slated to hit theaters in March 2024, but film was unceremoniously pulled off the schedule.
Beyond the Spider-Verse is set to deal with the aftermath from the cliffhanger ending of Across the Spider-Verse, which left Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) trapped in a parallel reality with a more malevolent version of himself (Jharrel Jerome).
Beyond the Spider-Verse is probably going to be postponed until at least 2027.
