The latest edition in the saga, which began with Ridley Scott’s 1979 masterpiece and has since included spin-offs, prequels, and sequels, stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, and Isabela Merced as a group of young people eager to escape their backwater planet by any means necessary. Of course, their plan to find a better life ends in them encountering something far worse.
Alien: Romulus Timeline
“Alien: Romulus” is set between the original “Alien” (2122) and “Aliens” (2183). A lot transpired between those two films, including the company’s rebranding to Weyland-Yutani and the events of the popular videogame “Alien: Isolation.”
There are several clues, beginning with the film’s opening sequence, in which the firm recovers a fossilised Xenomorph from a meteor (this is the creature from the first film). However, there is also the abandoned space station Renaissance, where they fly to obtain supplies to fuel (literally) their long trip away from their dreadful world.
The space station is divided into two halves: Remus and Romulus. The Remus modular is less advanced and more science-oriented, whereas Romulus is more militarised. And the appearance of each half is consistent with one of the earlier films, with Remus feeling extremely “Alien” and Romulus heavily influenced by “Aliens.” The music also changes; Remus has dreamier, more Jerry Goldsmith sounds, whilst Romulus has a more pulse-pounding tune reminiscent of James Horner.
