The relationships that the former president of the United States had with the men in his life is the subject of the documentary Lover of Men: The Untold History of Abraham Lincoln. The Human Rights Campaign and Special Occasion Studios, the film’s producers, have confirmed their collaboration.
Broadening its focus on the history of human sexual fluidity, the documentary includes letters, never-before-seen pictures, and a range of academics, writers, and researchers. According to the official synopsis, “The film challenges the audience to examine why we retain such a narrow understanding of human sexuality and fills in a crucial gap in American history. In addition to examining sexual identity and gender norms, Lover of Men also looks at intolerance in America.”
Robert Rosenheck is the producer and Shaun Peterson is the director of the documentary. Rosenheck said it was inspiring to collaborate with Human Rights Campaign on the release of Lover of Men. Human Rights Campaign is the premier civil rights organization in the United States dedicated to achieving equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people. He complimented the American Dream, citing equality as a key component.
